What is proper graduation etiquette?

I don't know who to send invites to, or if I have to get my friends anything.

Graduation invitations should be sent to your parents. You can invite grandparents and older siblings. You should not invite friends, since graduation ceremonies only permit a few invitations per student and those should go to parents and role models first.

Send hand-written notes that your child is graduating, especially from high school or college. Be sure to say no gifts are expected - you just want to be sure people know the good news. Then you can feel free to invite your closest friends and relatives to the graduation!

There is usually a restriction to the number of invites for the actual ceremony itself, this may be anything between 2 or 4. If however you have a large family you may be able to apply for extra tickets. A present isn't needed but a card is appropriate.

Typically you would send out invitations to your family: parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and other close relatives. You can include any friends that you are close to and whom are not in the ceremony. Don't feel bad if you want to keep your 'gifts' to a minimum, but be sure to get your best friend something, even small.
