After the first month of life, bowel movements will decrease for both breast-fed and formula-fed babies. It is normal for a formula-fed baby to have one bowel movement per day. Breast-fed babies may not have a bowel movement for up to a week.

The amount of bowel movements will depend on if you are breast feeding or giving your baby formula. Formula fed babies will have bowel movements more often, usually one for every feedng breastfed babies can go as often or as little as once every few days.

A one month old infant can have very varied bowel movements. They can pass stools up to 5 times a day or may even pass stools once in 4 - 5 days. As long as the stools come out fairly easily, are not too small in quantity or too watery and the child is gaining weight its not a problem.
