Mass per unit volume is the definition of the concept of density. Density of an object is measured using a scale for measuring mass and by measuring the geometry of the object.

The mass per unit volume is called the density, and has units of kilograms per cubic meter. The density of an object depends on the material it is made of and also its state of matter (solid, liquid or gas). Denser object tend to sink in water.
