Irritable bowel syndrome affects twice as many women as it does men. There can be a variety of symptoms. You may experience a bloated feeling, abdominal pain, constipation or diarrhea, and gas. IBS does not usually lead to a more serious condition, but you should check in with a doctor to rule out something more serious first.

IBS is a condition in which the digestive system experiences painful fluctuations between diarrhea and constipation, without any known cause. It is not the same as IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease).
