What is involved in the replacement of a catalytic converter?

The vehicle inspector told me mine is bad.

It's fairly simple. It's part of the exhaust system. It should be flanged on, so it's basically a bolt-on thing. Trouble is it gets pretty hot, so you have to wait for it to cool for awhile before working on it. The part itself is pretty expensive. I would have a qualified shop replace it.

Well get the car up in the air and release the exhaust hangers to release tension and provide more room to work . then lossen the clamps or connectors to the catalytic converter and remove it. it install is reverse , but dont tighten the clamps full y till you reconnect the hanger and give proper clearances.

You will need to cut the exhaust pipe before and after the converter. Then the new one will need to be welded or clamp back in.
