Converting a vehicle from front or rear wheel drive to all wheel drive involves changing the transmission in the vehicle itself. Some older Fords have switches on the wheels to lock the transmission for that wheel. It requires the transmission being locked for all four wheels.

The major components you will need to add to your vehicle are a transfer case, driveshafts, and some sort of 4WD controls. Existing vehicle components that may need to be replaced to accommodate the 4WD include suspension (possibly raising the ride height), transmission, wheel hubs, and engine control software.

It is not recommended to turn a two wheel drive vehicle into a four wheel drive vehicle, unless the vehicle is made with the option of a two wheel or four wheel drive model. There is alot that needs to be done, new transmission, new computer, et al.

It would require a lot of work to change from 2 to 4 wheel drive. You'd have to get power from the dive wheels to the other two wheels of the car through a trans axle. There may also be engine modifications needed, driving four wheels is harder on the motor.
