What is involved in aloe propagation?

Is it difficult? I'd like to have more aloe plants around my home for use on my skin.

Growing aloe is very easy. Aloe is a plant that likes its sun. Make sure to plant it in full sun or minimal shade. It does not require that much water. If planted in a pot, it will grow and expand to fit the diameter of the pot. It can be replanted in a wider pot. Easy to care for.

Propagation of aloe is very easy, but involves getting your hands dirty. You have to split the plant at the base so that get roots with the leaves you replant.

Aloes naturally sprout "pups" or small clusters of leaves from mature areas. You'll see roots growing on the underside. Simply cut clusters off and replant them in a new pot.

Once the main plant has grown to good size, cut off a piece of that plant and place it in the new put burying it at least 2 inches deep.

Many aloes grow "pups" off to the side. Cut off a pup deep enough to get some roots. Let it dry out for a couple of days, then plant. Easy!

Carefully pull off a leaf and bury the end in a pot of sand or perlite. Keep moist, but not too wet. The leaf will root in a few weeks. You can also propagate aloe by offshoots. Simply sever the stem that attaches the offshoot to the mother plant, carefully dig up the offshoot, and repot it.

Aloe propagation is very simple. A mature aloe plant will produce small shoots that resemble a smaller version the parent plant. The shoots will grow alongside the parent plant. You should remove these shoots with as much root intact as possible, also taking care not to damage the root system of the parent, and re-pot in a separate container.

Aloe Vera is a strange shaped plant and it might be confusing how to propagate asexually compared to ivy, for example. The plant produces viable offshoots from it's roots.

All aloes eventually produce suckers, or little baby aloes, off the main plant. You can cut these suckers off the main plant with a sterilized blade and plant them in potting mix, and they will grow into full-sized aloes and produce their own suckers.
