What is in polyester and how long has it been around?

I see it on a lot of fabric labels.

It was patented in 1941. Polyester is a category of polymers- Large molecule consisting of identical structural units- containing ester. They include natural chemicals as well as synthetics made through processes.

Polyester is basically plastic that is used in threads to create a fabric or composition that is desired. It was created initially in Britain in the 1940's.
