What is "globalization?"

I hear about it all the time but the context doesn't tell me anything.

It is the process by which local cultures and economies become integrated, interdependent, and more similar to each other, through communication, trade, migration, and the spread of technology. It can be the result of economic pressures, or of acculturation (first hand contact between cultures).

"Globalization" is a term that refers to the growing interconnectedness between the countries of the world. An example would be that many people in other countries now learn English so they can do business with each other. Another example is the internet which can connect people across the world.
