The gift giving etiquette for any type of wedding is simply to purchase something heartfelt that you think the bride and groom need or will appreciate. Usually the couple will have a registry you can use as a gift-buying guide. Cards with personal checks are also acceptable.

If you are attending a wedding, be it the first, second or whatever, a gift is appropriate. The fact you have been invited to share in this event would indicate you are close enough to this couple that you would "want" to bring a gift in honor of the celebration.

When attending a second wedding, it is appropriate to carry a gift or card. If you attended the first wedding of either the bride or groom, a card expressing "Best Wishes" and small gift as a token of your regard for them is acceptable. The value of the gift may depend on the relationship one shares with the couple.

If you are attending a wedding with a formal reception afterward, a small gift would be proper. Second weddings generally are not as lavish as first weddings.
