Galvanized steel has been put through a process that coats it with another, more oxidation resistant, metal. Usually Zinc is used in this process. The Steel is coated with several layers of Zinc and these layers help prevent the steel from rusting. This is very beneficial in marine, outdoor, industrial, and other damp applications.

Galvanized steel is when steel has been coated with a thin layer of zinc by passing the steel threw a molten bath of temperatures of 460 degrees Celsius. When exposed to the atmosphere the pure zinc reacts with oxygen to form zinc oxide, which further reacts with carbon dioxide to form zinc carbonate. It protects the steel from the elements
