The "E" stands for ethanol, which is a type of alcohol. the "10" means 10% of the gasoline is ethanol. In E-85 gas, 85% of the gasoline is ethanol. Ethanol is used to reduce the amount of crude oil needed to formulate gasoline. It is becoming a standard to have at least 10% ethanol in all fuel in the U. S.

E-10 gas is used for vehicles that are use for diesel vehicles. It is a great idea at one point as it was popular as a energy saver. However there was reports that the gas was giving vehicles problems when it comes to the engine wear and the corrosion that was forming from the gas.
