The active component of Dilaudid is the hydrochloride salt of hydromorphone. According to the Merck Index, one part of hydromorphone HCl is soluble in three parts of water. That is, you could dissolve one gram of hydromorphone HCl in three grams of water. Dilaudid is much less soluble in alchol, chloroform, and ether.

Dilaudid contains as an active ingredient the salt 'hydromorphone'. Hydromorphone (and therefore Dilaudid by extension) is soluble in 3 parts water. As an example - one cc of water would dissolve three hundred and thirty-three (333) mg of Dilaudid.
