By far one of the most fascination descriptors of human sound. Moaning can communicate any number of emotions or ideas; pain, pleasure (such as an "mmm" sound associated with eating), unhappiness, unwillingness, illness (one will often moan if they have steady physical pain, such as that caused by a fever or muscle aches), or even sexual satisfaction.

It depends on the situtation, moaning can be interpreted as a sign of pain or as a sign of pleasure.
