Toenails will grow thicker when they are not treated well. If you do not let your toenail breath it will cause the toenail to thicken. For example, women tend to keep their toenails painted on a constant basis and do not allow the nail to breath causing thickening.

Toenail thickening could be a sign of a fungus growing under the nail. If it continues to thicken see a doctor for medication topical or oral medication.

Toenails thickening is usually caused by a fungal infection. However if topical fungal creams and Sprays do not work you may want to consider seeing a doctor who can perscribe a pill that will kill the fungal infection. Also thickening of the toenails can be a symptom of something more serious so you may want to see a doctor.

This kind of reaction is caused by a toenail fungus that can be treated with prescription medications or with a little bit of diluted bleach applied daily to the nail.
