What is appropriate attire for a garden party?

Women can wear a sundress with a simple hat and sandals. Floral print is attractive to complement the garden theme. A small handbag is appropriate to wear as well. For men, light slacks and a button down shirt is appropriate attire. Lightweight fabrics are cool and in keeping with the season for a garden party.

Definitely something light and airy. White is nice, but depending on the menu you could get away with a nice pair of jeans, provided they are a nice cut and fit. If in doubt just ask the host/hostess.

Men or women can wear light-weight slacks with casual but nice shirts or sweaters for a garden party. Women could wear a summer casual dress or sundress with sandals. Men may wear loafers, and women loafers or sandals. Jeans, athletic apparel, and tennis shoes are generally not appropriate.

Ask your hostess. Some garden parties are formal, others are much more casual. If this information isn't on the invitation, just as your host/hostess. The garden parties I've been to have asked the women to wear nice spring dresses and hats, with the men wearing comfortable summer suits.
