An isosceles trapezoid is a trapezoid, or four sided figure, with equal base angles. There are two parallel sides and the the non-parallel sides are equal in length. It is symmetrical about the line that bisects both parallel sides. The area is equal to half the sum of the lengths of the two parallel sides times the distance between them.

A trapezoid is a 4 sided figure with one set of parallel sides. An isosceles trapezoid has a line of symmetry (that basically can cut the figure equally in half).
