The IQ (Intelligence Quotient) was designed to have 100 at the center of the scale, so the average IQ number is exactly 100. On a bell curve, most people are clustered around the 100 score, with fewer as you go out to the higher and lower ends of the scale.

Official IQ tests are standardized so that the average IQ across the population falls at or very near 100 points. Therefore, an IQ of 100 is average. However, online tests typically assign higher numbers than official tests, so it is difficult to judge what the average would be on these unstandardized versions.

The average IQ sore is 100. Scores between 85 and 115 constitute the average range. Just under 70 percent of individuals tested fall within this group. People with very high scores (above 145) or very low scores (below 55) are minimal, less than one percent of those tested.

IQ tests are designed so that someone of average intelligence will recieve a score of 100 at any age. This means that 100 is average, above 100 is above normal, below 100 is below normal by definition of all IQ tests.
