I think the term you are referring to is "acrosonic". Acrosonic pianos are also referred to as Baldwin pianos, the Midwest company that manufactures them. They are upright pianos with a unique sound due to the shorter strings (not as deep sounding as some pianos). Vintage Baldwins were made from mahogany or oak.

An aerosonic piano was built by Baldwin in the 1940's. It is a high back piano upright piano normally made of oak. These pianos normally sell for $500 to $1300.

It is also known as a Baldwin Aerosonic piano. It sits lower to the ground and has the 88 keys,the tone is different. And it is good for beginners.

I think you may mean acrosonic piano. They are a spinnet piano and the most well known manufacturer was Baldwin's. They aren't made any more although it is still possible to pick one up second hand, unfortunately they are often in quite poor condition. They usually have very decorative cabinets.
