Typically, tattoo artists do not have a base salary. They often have a chair fee charged to them by the shop they work for. Alternatively, some shops charge a percentage of the artist's profit.

A tattoo artist's salary can differ dramatically depending on the artist. Some could make less than $20,000 a year and some can make over $100,000 a year, depending on the clientele and the artist's prices.

It varies from tattoo parlor to parlor, to customer demand of the artist, artists skill, etc. So really, there is no definitive answer for this question.
