A sink tail pipe or commonly refered to by the Pros as a "tail piece", connects the drain outlet of the sink or sink strainer to the trap and then to the plumbing sanitary system. It's the metal portion of the sink which allows water to drain into the pipes underneath. It's attached to the bottom of the sink with a circular piece called a locking nut.

A sink tail pipe is spelled exactly the same was as the tail pipe on a vehicle. The reason for this is that both the sink and car tail pipes are the same words and in the same language, English. Now for the answer to your question, I don't know or care really, but this is fun!

A sink tail pipe is a peice of pipe that comes down on a double sink to catch the other sink. Once you get the other sink hooked up the you run your pee trap under the tail pipe. So bascily all it does it turn 2 sink drins into 1.
