Its not due to a flood but shallow water diving or swimming it happens usually in endurance events, is an event where an individual hyperventilates before they enter the water. If no help is around death can pursue. holding breathe to long while swimming underwater can trigger a shallow water blackout

A Shallow Water blackout, refers to when a diver loses conciousness on a dive due to a lack of oxegyn to the brain. When the diver passes out in water less than 16 feet it is considered a Shallow Water Blackout.
