A pump shutoff head is the part of a pump, or an addition to a pump, where the fluid coming through the device is turned off. This can be located directly on a pump, or as an attachment to make access easier for the person operating it. This is often the case in pools.

A pump shut off head is determined by the pressure rise at discharge conditions. These conditions are determined by where the flow is circulating and diffusing spaces. This can be hard to calculate because of the variable states of flowpaths. The pump shut off head is also referred to as the centrifugal pump shut off head.
