The bird's chest will be a dark reddish color which can best be described as a deep rusty red color. The chest may also appear orange in the sunlight. The red color on the chest will be speckled with black.

Depending on where you live, possible small birds include: red-breasted robin, stonechat, red-breasted nuthatch and rose-breasted grosebeak. Slightly larger birds that might fit the description include the red-breasted sapsucker and the redwing.

it could possibly be a sub-species of a robin, there are a few variety's depending on what region of the US you live in. thought i could help.

A few of the birds that come to mind are: red-breasted robin, red breasted nuthatch,red breasted sapsucker, rose-breasted gosebeak (male), and the red-breasted blackbird.
