What is a petty cash voucher?

I was told at work to get one, but I don't know what it is. I didn't ask because I felt stupid.

A small printed form (receipt) used to write details about a petty cash fund's payment. Petty cash is nothing but a small amount in hand that we will pay directly instead of giving a check.

A petty cash voucher is the backup required by the finance or accounting department to track cash disbursements to employees. It is used as backup for the transaction. The voucher also needs to be signed off by a superior to ensure it was authorized correctly.
