Microsystems are miniaturized devices which perform nonelectronic functions. Their primary functions are sensing and actuation. They are used in many products, such as microscopes, airbag sensors, in inkjet printer sensors and capacitors in pressure sensors. Microsystems with advanced capabilities and their own intelligence are usually referred to as smart systems.

Like the title would imply they are small devices, usually in micro size that perform nonelectrical functions. They are usually placed in many products from microscopes to airbag sensors, inkjet printers and pressure plate sensors.
