Kelley started out as a large used car dealership in California. They had a book (it happened to be blue) where they kept records on the value of different used cars. They were so good at it, that they began to publish the book for other car dealers.
Kelly Blue Book is a collection of automotive values based on mileage, condition, and other things. It was created as a standard for pricing automotive to eliminate pricing confusion.
