You should ice the affected area with an ice pack covered in a towel, or a pack of frozen vegetables covered in a towel. This should be done for about 20 minutes, followed by a two-hour rest.

RICE is the first thing you should do for a pulled quad muscle. Rest, Ice, Compression and elevation is the treatment for the first twenty-four to forty-eight hours of the injury. If the injury is not better in forty-eight hours, you should see a doctor. When the muscle is feeling better, try some stretching exercises to help prevent further injuries.

The best thing to do is rest it and put some ice on it until the initial pain recedes. After that, stretch it some and gradually start exercising it again.
