A good setup is one which creates different spaces for children to play, relax, learn and be creative. For example, a "story corner", and "art table" and a toy area.

You need to make as many separate "stations" as you can in the classroom. Make one area where they lay down mats for nap time. Make a section where they can sit on the floor and either listen to music or have you read to them. Include an adult-sized chair for you there. Then have a chairs/desk area.

Divide the room in two, one half will have the desks/chairs (it is ok if they are close together) the other will have large play area.

The teaching atmosphere for a four year old can be quiet challenging. The room needs to be large and very bright. Centers should be setup in strategic areas because a four year old needs lots of movement. Tables shelves should be low enough for a young child to use with ease. Lots and lots of color should be displayed.

Have set spaces for each activity. Have a rug on the floor where you will teach lessons with shapes that each child can identify as a place to sit on.

An early childhood classroom should contain enough colors and shapes to keep the children interested while still providing a sense of order.
