The desert lilac tree is most hardy in zones five and six. Using the USDA zone map will help you determine your zone. The desert lilac tree, regardless of what state you plan to grow them, need a great deal of sunlight in an area that doesn't get heavy water.

I think the best place where you can plant the lilac tree is somewhere that is hot and dry. Because this plant is drought and heat tolerant so make sure it receives enough full sun during day time and a well drained soil.

If you are referring to Ceanothus greggii var. vestitus, this plant enjoys climates from alpine to mediterranean. Your care would vary depending on your climate. Fertilize in spring or fall.

Perfect for slightly alkaline soil, desert lilac's add much beauty to a desert garden. Plant in late April or early in May, although planting them in late September works, too. Water well during the first couple of years, and once a week after their root systems are mature. After blooming, apply organic fertilizer. Make sure their area has good drainage.

Lilacs need at least 6 hours of daylight, but they should not be put in areas where they will get dried or burned out. Look for sheltered areas that also get some shade during the day.

Because the desert lilac is drought and heat tolerant, which makes it an ideal replacement for lilac in hotter climates and milder winters. It loves sun and heat, and well-drained soils.

The desert lilac tree gets its name from of all places, the desert. You see it is native to the deserts, most notably the high plains deserts of New Mexico. Anywhere else and you can forget it.
