Serum ferritin levels is a fairly good reflection of our body iron stores. Test is usually done during work-up of patients with iron deficiency anemia.

Ferritin serum testing is a measure of iron stored in your blood and available for your body's use. Iron is necessary for the mechanisms that carry oxygen in blood, and without a sufficient storehouse of this vital mineral you may become tired, lack energy or drive, or become anemic. Iron supplements are often the answer to low ferritin serum levels.
