Convicted criminals are not allowed to own or possess firearms. If an individual with a criminal past was found to have a gun, he could be charged with a felony. There are, however, lots of charges that could stem from gun possession.

The mere fact that a felon possess a gun in and of itself is a felony offense and the felon would be guilty of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

If you are on probation, you are not allowed to be around people who are committing criminal acts or people who might be in possession of weapons. If you are in a house and you are aware that there is a gun in the house, you are violating your probation.
