The driver's shaft is the portion of the golf club between the grip and the club head. The reason it is important is because there are varieties of shafts to select from when choosing a driver. For a beginner, I'd suggest a graphite shaft. Graphite is lightweight and has flexibility, which doesn't require a new golfer to be 100% accurate.

A driver shaft connects to the driver clubhead and has a grip on the end to hold the club. The driver shaft is typically made out of graphite which helps with added torque and consequent distance.

Typical driver shafts are made of graphite, has a grip on it and glued into the driver head. Shafts should be selected by flex and weight according to the golfer.

The driver is the club with the biggest head that golfers use to hit the ball off the teebox the longest distance. The shaft is the long rod made of either steel or graphite that extends from the grip to the head of the club. The shaft can come in different flexes from stiff to loose.

A driver shaft is simply the long piece of metal or graphite that connects the club of your driver to the the handle where you put your hands. This is the same for irons as well. It is the long piece of metal or graphite on any club.
