In telephone dialing, this is a tone or code that must be entered in order to allow the telephone to perform a certain task. One common example is the dialing of the number nine to access an outside line.

A dialing code can be an area code (the 3 digit prefix before your 7 digit phone number), but it is more commonly used to describe the code you enter to make a call internationally. A lot of times, the dialing code begins with a + and a two digit number.
