Lethargy in horses can have many characteristics. The main ones to look for are being listless, drooping head, and little to no interest in food. A lethargic horse will be lacking in energy and not wanting to do normal daily activities.

Lethargy in horses is characterized by the horse being lazy, listless, disinterested and unusually quiet. Some horses have naturally lazy personalities but lethargy can be a symptom of a more serious health condition if your horse is not normally this way.

The horse will look very slow and sluggish. Maybe he's not gaining weight. The best way to tell is in the eyes. They will look very dull.

Low energy and slow to respond to stimulus. Caused by any number of things: systemic illness, fever, improper nutrition, lack of weight, dehydration. Presented as low energy, lack luster/ dull coat, drooping eyes, no interest in his surroundings, and often little to no interest in eating.

Usually you know when your horse is being his normal self. When your horse sees you and the grain pail he will usually perk up his ears and come running. When he is being lethargic he will barely notice you and hang his head and walk slowly.

Horse's eyes will be "dull" looking, he might be reluctant to move, or move quite slowly. Horse might also have depressed appetite, and not want to eat much. Overall energy level will be low.

A lethargic horse would have an unusual lack of energy. Keeping to themselves and not interacting with the rest of the herd. Not all horses are as social or active as others. It would be important to notice if the horse suddenly becomes more or less energetic than what is normal for them.
