The critical period refers to a given time period where an organism should develop certain features, based on its environment conditions. If this does not occur during this time, the organism may never develop such characteristics.

A critical period is a limited time in which an event can occur,usually to result in some kind of transformation. Example 3 to 8 mos is the critical time for a child to develope what they call binocular vision.
