A coolant bottle catches the overflow from the radiator and stores extra coolant. It goes on the radiator and when the radiator heats up the heat and pressure pushes coolant out into the bottle, when it cools down the coolant is pulled back in.

Coolant bottles are ice packs which go into the freezer and stay there until they are needed. They are usually placed into coolers to keep food cold for picnics.
