In classical music, a concerto is composed in three parts, called movements. Most of the time, these movements are dominated by a solo instrument with an accompanying orchestra. The concerto is associated with the Baroque period and composers such as Handel and Bach.

It is a work for solo instrument and piano or orchestral accompaniment that follows this structure: orchestral opening of the theme, repetition of theme with solo instrument, go through development of theme, solo has a cadenza and signals the orchestra to continue or end the piece via a trill.
