Rene Descartes combined algebra and geometry, previously considered separate math concepts, when he created. The Cartesian Plane is also called the X,Y Plane or X,Y Grid and is used to plot or map specific points along the X or Y axes. The name of the it is derived from the "CARTES" portion of DesCartes name. "Cartes" is French for "maps."

No. It's a flat surface (like a piece of graph paper) with two axes (not the tool - "axes" is the plural of "axis") that cross in the center.
