The underlying cause has to be found out and rectified. Treatment depends on the cause and includes the use of Diuretics, ACE inhibitors, Beta-Blockers, exercise, fluid restriction and a low salt diet. Anticoagulation, Digoxin and morphine may also be used.

Cardiomegaly treatment usually consists of medication to decrease the load on the heart and may include afterload reduces such as ACE inhibitors(angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors) and preload reducers such as nitrates. Cardiac rehabilitation may held but check with your doctor as a workup may be required before treatment

There are a variety of treatments just as there are a variety of reasons for cardiomegaly. Treatment can vary from anti-coagulation medication, ACE, ARBs or Beta Blockers, to implantation of a pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator. Other surgical options may be a valve transplant or a heart transplant. The treatment for this will depend entirely on the severity.

Treatments for enlarged hearts vary based on the severity. A doctor may prescribe Prednisone to try to decrease the inflammation.
