The camel-hair brushes consists of various low cost hair like Asian Pony, Bear, Squirrel, Deer etc. They range greatly for their softness which is normally use for painting etc. In a camel hair brush not a single hair of camel is used as it is too woolly for painting. Its like a trade mark for soft brushes.

A camel-hair brush comes from the hair on the back of a camel's neck that is coarse and short, much like that of a zebra.

Camel-hair generally refers to a brush that is made of cheaper soft hair. It is not actually camel hair, and can be sable, ox, horse, even squirrel hair, as well as other things.
