What is a bezel setting?

My fiance says this is what she wants in a ring.

A band of metal is placed around the stone as opposed to having the stone set in prongs. It is the most secure setting, holding the stone firmly in place.

Bezel setting means that the diamond is set into the metal part of the ring. The shape of the diamond isn't as special in this type of ring but instead the security with the diamond set securely in the metal.

A bezel setting is where there is a collar of metal all the way around the edge of the stone, which holds the stone in the setting. The more common settings have prongs holding the stone in at several points, instead of the continous collar.

A bezel set stone is surrounded by metal as opposed to being held up by prongs like a typical solitaire. Think of it as a stone in a small tube.
