You are obligated to do what the boss says as long as it is not dangerous, illegal, or something you are not qualified to do. They cannot threaten you with harm, withhold wages, or deny pay or benefits if you report them for doing something illegal. They are required to pay you for all hours worked and give adequate breaks.

It depends on the job, but ideally this relationship needs to be cordial to friendly, but never cross into inappropriate. No boss should ask an employee to do something they are uncomfortable with.

Never get too close to your boss. A casual relationship at work where you guys talk is fine but when you start getting too close it can backfire. It always seems like when you become friends with your boss you get too close to the business.
