The umbilical cord will either be disposed of with other health waste products or it can be used for research purposes.

The cord is attached to the placenta which is delivered shortly after baby. In hospitals it is usually considered medical waste and is incinerated.

Its actually the baby's umbilical cord. The cord is cut after birth and then either discarded, donated or stored in a cryobank (usually that costs money).

The umbilical cord along with the amniotic sac leave the body shortly after the baby is born. Some people choose to keep it to use when they plant a new tree outside their home, others just choose to have the hospital get rid of it. The remnants of the Sac will leave in the following days.
