What happened with the 1919 Chicago White Sox?

They were accused of throwing the World Series to the Cincinnati Reds. The White Sox were huge favorites, and some gamblers paid them to lose, and bet on the Reds. All the accused players were found not guilty yet were banned from ever playing baseball again

Due to a running feud between players and White Sox owner Charles Comiskey over pay and compensation the many players felt underpaid and under appreciated. Several of the players, lead by Arnold Gandil, conspired with professional gamblers and gangsters to throw the World Series and allow the Reds to win.

The 1919 Chicago White Sox team was suspended for illegally throwing their own games in a betting scandal (Shoeless Joe Jackson played on this team). 8 players suspended for life.
