What goes well with dark wood flooring, color furniture and walls?

Answer by  Valentine62 (2131)

You would want a light color on your walls to accent the dark flooring, and the furniture should be the same wood as the flooring, only in a lighter shade. Let's say that your floor is a dark walnut, you would use a lighter walnut in choosing furniture. Do not use a wood grain mix such as walnut and pecan.

With dark wood flooring, furniture and walls, you want some "accent" pieces in the room to warm it up a little. Try neutral colored curtains, throw pillows, area rugs or blankets in tans, taupe or white. Lighting makes a big difference. Try sheer curtains that allow natural sunlight in. Use bright white light bulbs.

Is all your furniture dark, and your walls and floors? In that case you might want to lighten the room with bright or light colored pillows, drapes and throws.

If you have darkwood flooring you should stick to neutral walls and furniture. Beige sofa and chairs, cherry or black furniture and off-white walls will bring out the floor and give the area a warm and even tone. An area rug will also give the room a finished touch.

Dark wood flooring is very versatile - it will match well with most colours on the walls, from pale creams and pastels to deep, rich reds, purples and teals, particularly in large airy rooms. Avoid pairing light wood furniture such as pine or pale oak with a dark wood floor.

Dark wood flooring would look beautiful with a lighter colored wall color. A cream color wall paint would be beautiful as well as a light to medium shade of green. You can add a white or cream colored baseboard and trim. Lighter brown furniture will go well with the flooring.

It depends on the look you are going for. White or cream color furniture and walls will bring a more modern sleek look that will make the floor more noticeable. Colored furniture and walls can blend with the floor but can bring a more upbeat vibe to the room with the right colors.
