R12 is freon; the terms--and refrigerants--are compatible. It's R-134 that isn't compatible with freon. Very few automobiles currently on the road require freon; they all take R-134 now.

You should never mix refrigerants. The current standard, R134a, is not designed to work in an old system. It must be purged and retrofitted for the new refrigerant.

You should never mix refrigerant in the system. It can damage the internal parts. If you have the old style it must be purged and retrofitted. This should be done by a professional air conditioning shop since you can't remove the refrigerant yourself. They can also retrofit and refill it for you.

Well I don't believe that that newer refrigerant are designed to mix with older style. You should have a specialist purge and retrofit the system before you try to add anything into the system.

none from what I have been told, you will have to convert your current system over to the 134a and then you will be good to go, the conversion is fairly easy
