The standard food for a hamster is a rodent pellet, available at all pet shops, but you can try to supplement that with different seeds, fruits, and vegetables.

Hamsters are herbivoirs. So you need to give them a vegitarian diet. If you go to your local pet store you can find a food mix that they sell. You also might want to purchase a book on hamster care which will be a good guide on further care they may need. As a pet owner its a good investment.

If you go to a pet store, they will have specialized food for hamsters. This food is specially formulated for hamsters and will make sure that they get all of the nutrients that they need. Additionally, treats for hamsters can be obtained at a pet store as well. Different sized hamsters need different foods.

Hamsters should have a balanced mixed combination of seeds, nuts, pellets, and grains. A hamster's mix would normally consist of corn, peanuts, barley, dried peas, Sunflower seeds, dried fruits and vegetables. For additional treats, honey seed sticks and yogurt drops may be given occasionally.

Hamsters like fresh vegetables. You can feed them celery with the leafy tops as well as carrots. They also like fresh parsley. Most owners simply purchase ready-made hamster food from a pet store. Uneaten food should be discarded daily and replaced with fresh. Always provide fresh water as well and replace it daily.
