A warlock is what a male witch is referred to as. Warlocks have mystical, magical powers and usually are depicted with long, flowing beards and blue or black floor length robes. They are also often shown as being older men, and they are found in science fiction books, movies, and magazines.

The word warlock was used during the Middle Ages and later to refer to a male who practices witchcraft -- a male witch. The word comes from an Old English word meaning "oath breaker" and it was frequently used by witch hunters. Today many pagans find the term offensive and apply the word witch to both males and females.
