Men have different caloric requirements, which is figured into a weight loss plan. e.g., to calculate maintenance calories for a woman, take her body weight (140), add a zero (1400) then add the body weight again (1400+140=1540) to get maintenance calories. For a man, the calories are added in twice after the zero is added.

Diets for men would tend to have more calories than diets for women. Otherwise, the two are about the same, but primarily vary by what you prefer to eat.

The amount of calories is the largest factor. Men generally have a higher metabolism than woman of the same weight/age, so men would need more calories to maintain their weight. The basic breakdown of fats/carbs/protein shouldn't matter much between genders.

Most men need more calories than women, so their weight loss diet should allow for that. Since most men work, and some women don't, time and/or planning the diet should also be a factor. If the man is married or has a significant other, then their feelings/schedule also matter as they may have to plan the diet.
